Microbreweries in Hai Duong

I decided to keep the old posts just to see the history later on. So much has happened in Vietnam since 2014. This site is not updated since 2014-2015 so its a historical review of the beer that existed at that time. Hai Duong lies between Hanoi and Hai Phong and it takes 1,5 hour by train from Hanoi (58 km). There is one microbrewery here. This is a sleepy and quiet town, known for its diamond industries and a beautyful lake that reminds about Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi. The population is about 250,000 and the city has no tourists so this is the perfect escape if you are tired of the mass tourism in Nha Trang and Mui Ne.

Bohemia Excellent, 2 Hoang Hoa Tham

Hai Duong has a microbrewery with two beers on tap, on walking distance from the trainstation. All the brewing equipment can be seen from your table. There are not many expats here and absolutely no tourists so dont expect any English here. If you feel disturbed by drinking with other people, ask to sit in one of many private VIP rooms. Directions: Just walk on Hong Quang from the train station about 500 m to a roundabout, then take right and enter Hoang Hoa Tham and after a few hundred meters you will see Bohemia Excellent on your left hand.

Both beers are ok but the black one has better structure and more taste. The price for a glass of beer is 26 000 vnd which is much lower than most places in Hanoi.            Address: Nr 2 Hoang Hoa Tham, Hai Duong, tel: 03203836196

HAI PHONG

The most important seaport and the third biggest city in Vietnam with about two million inhabitants has many things but very few good places for beer. Hai Phong is famous for the big harbour and all the businesses there, both the legit and the illegit ones. All goods have to pass Hai Phong which means that if you want to get your products in time you better be generous to get them in time. Many harbour cities seem to have a rougher reputation and Hai Phong is no exception. People drink bia hoi here and the regular bottled beers and this Big Man Beer is the only one serving microbrew beer in Hai Phong so far.

Big man beer  5 Tran Hung Dao

There are a few expats in Hai Phong and you might meet one or two of them here with other locals. Big Man beer has been here for a few years and has the regular Vietnamese menu and style. Price: Low Size: Small Service: Normal English: Maybe

Directions: Enter Tran Hung Dao from Hoang Van Thu and after a few hundred meters you will find Big Man Beer.
